Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she also works to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and other classes of people online. A graduate in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public presenter and has presented talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in 2009, while still a student at the University. It was a girl determined to make a series of web videos that would examine gender representations in games. But, she was victimized by online harassment. However the attack could have been a hindrance, rather it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. As a result of the many accomplishments she's made to feminism, she is awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit focused on the portrayal of women in pop culture stories.
